One of my favorite things to do is Bake. Something about the Summer approaching gets me in high drive baking mode. If you are just randomly finding yourself here on my blog site: Welcome ! You will find that cooking and baking is one of the elements I find to be an awesome bonding experience not just for a step mom and her gained kid or kids; but also for the household . I am a new Wife, and a new Mom that enjoys blending the new elements in my life with the constant elements in my life. It is the balance of those two that has made this awesome extension of my life journey a pretty cool one. Twists and turns, of course but always sweeter at the end. This recipe is a great family dish but feel free to try it out with any occasion. Let’s get to baking Super Moms!
Kiss Your Mama Bread Pudding Recipe
The Ingredients
A loaf of French Bread
1/2 cup of brown sugar
1/2 granulated sugar
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 cup of heavy cream of half and half
3 cups of whole milk
3 large eggs
2 eggs yolks
2 tsp vanilla extract
3 tbspoon unsalted butter, melted
First thing First
I take the loaf of bread and cut them up in cubes, roughly 1 to 2 inches . I placed them on top of parchment paper and then the over at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Halfway through I take them out turn them over with a big spoon and place them back in for the rest of the time. All ovens differ, so just make sure they are not turning into croutons. This process is to dry them out when you don’t have days old bread already. Which I never do.
Now that you have your bread ready you can start the prep. For myself I do the prep while the bread is in the oven, but you can easily lose track of time so you decide how you want to do it.

Prep Time Moms
I take a big mixing bowl and I combine my brown sugar (I use light brown), sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. I use my hands to mix it really good and remove any clumps.
In the same bowl I add the three eggs and the two egg yolks. For the yolks I just break the egg shell over the sink, cup the yolk and separate the whites from it. Once in the bowl, I mix it with a whisk.
Then I add the milk, heavy cream or half and half (I have used both and both have came out yummy). I whisk away. Then I add vanilla flavor. You should be smelling some goodness at this stage. If not go ahead and add a tad more dash of that cinnamon.
Set your oven to 350.
The Combine Baby
I actually use my stand mixer bowl; but take another mixing bowl and place some of your bread cubes in the bowl. I personally do this in thirds. It is easier to ensure I can coat all the bread with that goodness of a custard I just made. After I put one third of cubes in the bowl I put one third of the custard on top and coat it with a big spoon. I do this two more times. There will be liquid in the bowl. This is a great sign you are doing it right. Then I let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes.
How long should you let it set? Rule of thumb: That liquid you saw should be absorbed in the bread down.
I take the butter and warm it up in the microwave ( I know but just a tiny bit of microwave action). I then get my glass casserole baking dish out and pour the melted butter in it.
Once poured I put the bread pudding mixture in the casserole dish, and with a spatula I just level the mixture (think when you bake brownies).
The I let it bake for 60 minutes. Again each oven can vary so check yours 5 minutes before and be prepared to maybe having to leave it in for another 5 minutes . It should be set with a slight jiggle to it.
Let it Rest.
Now this is good enough to eat on it’s own. Trust me but normally I do one of three sauces:

Family Treat : Salted Caramel or Simple Vanilla Syrup
Adults Only : Bourbon Vanilla Syrup
For the Salted Caramel I use store brought ones Moms. Get it right in the ice cream aisle and heat it right on up. Yes Ma’am. So good. Not ashamed at all!
For the vanilla syrup I take 1 cup of sugar (extremely sweet you can cut that down) place it in a small pot. I then take a stick of butter and microwave it til it is melted. I pour the melted butter in the pot with the sugar and turn on my heat. Almost to medium high and whisk like a maniac. I take an egg mix it and then pour it in the hot mixture. Whisking away. Lastly I add 2 tspoon of vanilla flavor. I have had it with and without the egg. Completely up to you.
This is intended to be a light drizzle now. So just drizzle. Too much of this sugar concoction is hyper land and dentists reminders of “not too much sugar” in your future visit. You can always substitute with any healthier version you would like. It will still be yummy.
Now for the grown up bourbon all I do is after the adding of the vanilla flavor I take the pot off the heat and pour 1/4 cup of my favorite Bourbon or Whiskey or anything in between. (See how I live my life here!) and trust me you will be in Earth Heaven.
So you have two options Step Mom treat or Wife treat.
Hope you guys try this recipe out. Let me know how it went with the family.
